[SOLVED] Specify Theme / Color Scheme for an Application

I usually run dark themes / color schemes, like Obsidian Coast / Oxygen. Some programs are problematic when running dark color schemes. One of the things I liked about previous versions of Kubuntu is that Gnome applications would open in a separate theme (Raleigh), so I could use a dark color scheme for KDE and run some of the programs I use most i.e. Firefox / Open Office and the dark scheme wouldn't interfere with the Gnome applications.

However, now that Open Office is integrated with KDE color schemes as of 9.10 Karmic, I can't override the dark scheme for Open Office. This is particularly unusable for Calc, because the background of the spreadsheet is black and the background colors specified for Custom Styles are not visible. I set Widget style to Raleigh in System Settings > GTK+ Appearance and also unchecked Apply colors to non-KDE4 applications in Colors > Options. This works for Firefox but not for Open Office.

In Gnome, it is possible to open specific apps with a user-specified theme using the following command in the launcher:

    Code:
    env GTK_RC_FILES=<path> command
Is there something like this in KDE so that I can run only Open Office Calc with a non-dark theme / color scheme?

You can always remove the openoffice.org-kde-integration package. This will not affect the functionality of OOo itself.
And in SystemSettings > Appearance > GTK+ Appearance you can specify a different theme for GTK applications, instead of QTCurve, which attempts to apply the existing kde theme to them.

I don't know the answer to the question of whether you can specify themes for individual applications. Someone else might.

EDIT: For what it's worth, I still can't run the kde-integration package on my system. Crashes OOo, missing checkboxes -- all the problems that were there in the pre-release still exist.

Thank you. I did a search for openoffice.org-kde in KPackageKit, uninstalled the package and now Open Office is opening with the Raleigh theme and in a perfectly usable state.

Btw, I like the quote in your signature. Is that an original?

        Glad I could help.

Original, no one else is that crazy. Except maybe a hundred years of theoretical physicists.

Oh yeah, one thing. You might want to go back to your original post and add [solved] to the title. That way, folks searching for solutions to similar problems know they can find it here.

I must be crazy because it makes perfect sense to me.
