    Installations, Test Machine, .tar.gz

    Hi friends

I am using an old machine, an Intell Celeron 1100MHz, 512k, Compaq Presario, built in 2001.
    I am running Kubuntu 9.10.

This is a test machine, for my learning purposes only, and my trusted laptop does not get any modifications without some kind of confirmation or approval from the Community. It does not bother me to crash the system, although it has not happened, as long I learn from my mistakes, That is the purpose of this machine.

I'm asking today for help installing .tar.gz, and .tar.gz2.
Don't shake your head at me! I want to learn this. I understand there may be complications, or worse, involved with installing .tar.gz, .tar.gz2, as opposed to using repositories.

Can someone help me in a dummy sort of way? Can someone at least recommend a tutorial or manual?

    Thanks!
    Namaste!

Just click edit in the originall post and add it to the tittle/subject line at top.
