is Talk2Me, the instructions are on the page, as a prerequisite, you need the java packages, so run:

sudo apt-get install sun-java5-jdk sun-java5-jre sun-java5-bin

in a terminal.

Could be a subset of the programme based on the fact that the typed word is probably converted to speech.

I am looking for a text to speech version that will read information from web pages, e-mail , open office documents ,etc.

What I really enjoy is the proof reading benefit and the option to rest tired eyes. For example it would read back this reply,catching errors which may not be the same thing as spelling mistakes.
