firefox cannot open service canada weblink

    Hello All,
I am new to this forum and running kubuntu 9.10.
When I tried to open the service canada link "http://java.com/en/download/help/500....xml#download",
with firefox, it gives following error message.

    Government of Canada
Symbol of the Government of Canada
    epass Canada
    A problem has occurred.

    BRS001:

    Java not enabled

To use this service, you must first enable Java from within your browser settings.

If you do not currently have a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) installed on your computer, you will need to download and install one from Sun Microsystems.

Please click Continue for more information.
and clicking on Continue doesn"t get me anywhere> please help me to get this resolve. thanking all of you in anticipation.

That does not look at all like a Canada web site. For starters, where's the ".ca"?

FYI, if you are worried about your Java, you can test it here:

    http://www.javatester.org/version.html

To install Java, review FAQ #9 in my signature.

@dr.gcpatel: Welcome to Kubuntu and KFN! Your post to this site apparently originated in, or near, Toronto. I conjecture that the error message that you received came from either your Internet Service Provider (ISP), or your ISP's ISP. One of these two was unable to contact the java.com site. That failure generated the error message that you observed. If you find that you are totally unable to get through, you should be able to download a free (as in both speech and beer) version of Java from your local Ubuntu repository. Just search for "java" in your favorite package manager. If you are confused about this come back to this site and someone will help to clarify.

@dibl: The last time I looked, Sun was located around the south bay area e.g. San Jose, Palo Alto, etc. As far as I know, a ".ca" is not required for companies in CAlifornia (unless Arnold is REALLY ticked about that constitution thing regarding foreign born citizens not being allowed to run for president).

Yeah, OK Al, but when you were looking around, where did you find the Government of Canada?

The last time I looked it was in the Great White North, (obscure reference to old tv show).

But the relevant point was that the address that his Canadian ISP couldn't find was "java.com", which is registered to "Sun Microsystems, Santa Clara, CA 95054", and that's on the US side of the border.

            Dear All,

Thanks for your guidance but it was my mistake too to inquire with the website information. however that was the link directed from govt of canada website and then i did what was guided but could not get along successfully so then I had a phone talk with the customer service representative at Govt of Canada. I was informed that the compatibility with linux system is yet not done with the site and till then only windows based os is in use but sooner they are to start with linux os too.

I'd vote the scoundrels out of office, if they don't get right to work on Linux support.
