I know wubi is new territory for a lot of people here so I thought I'd post my experience with it , Windows Updates, and grub.
It seems like every time there's a Windows Update lately, my Windows boot loader can't load grub properly. Twice now, after Win does its update thing, I get the dreaded sh:grub> prompt when trying to bring up my Wubi Kubuntu install.
I used the techniques here to fix it

( watch out for typos, those guys don't proof their posts ).
Is this a bug in Wubi?
Apparently the consensus is "It's a bug", it is in Grub 2.
See workaround ( entry # 160 ) in the thread at bugs.launchpad.net for bug 477169

Basically, if you are using Wubi with 9.10, every time you update, your boot configuration gets trashed. enjoy
