    Update Notifier continuesly asks to install the same updates.

    Update Notifier continues to ask me to install the same updates over and over. I have restarted the computer and reinstalled Kubuntu, but it doesn't fix the problem.

    Update Notifier gives me this message:

    "Amarok recommends installing packages for extra multimedia functionality"

    and sometimes

    "Konqueror recommends installing packages for extra multimedia functionality"

    The updates are always the same:

    - MP3 Encoding
    - MP3 Tag Reading
    - K3B CD Codecs
    - DVD Reading
    - Video Codecs
    - Flash
    - MPEG Plugins

    I have been tried installing updates for Kubuntu 9.10 (64bit) through KPackageManager, however when the download has finished and I click "refresh" the task becomes stuck at 94%. Maybe this means I haven't successfully updates all packages?

    How can I install the updates successfully?

    Clean install of Kubuntu 9.10 (64bit)

    Do you have the Medibuntu repository in your sources.list?

      Or the restricted extras package

      Open a terminal and type

      Code:
      sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
      and follow the instructions

          When typing sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras I received the following error message:

          "E: (package name) has no installation candidate" seems to be the message I get for every thing I try when using apt-get.

            I'm not quite sure. I have used

              To come back to the restricted extras, open kpackagekit and select settings. Then select edit software sources and ensure that "software restricted by copyright(multiverse)" is checked. If not select it and then hit close. On doing that your sources should then update and the package become available. This will solve most of your problems.

                Hi lan, thanks again for the quick reply.

                I went into settings and found that ""software restricted by copyright(multiverse)" was already checked. I unchecked and rechecked it and didn't find any change. However I found that the option "source code" was only partially checked, and instead of downloading from "server for Australia" I switched to "Main Server". After trying again I was able to find and download the restricted extras packages. They are downloading now, 1 hour to go =S... I'll let you know how it goes.
