Using headphones,speaker not muting.

When I plugin my headphones,my speakers don't mute.
After muting the FRONT channel in the soundmixer,The headphones also mute.
Can someone help me with this?

(P.S. my sound card is ATI HD STAC92xx)

I've even tried the same thing with alsamixer.
Also,how do I make this action default,when I plugin my headphones?

when you want to use your headphones , turn off your speakers.

Its a laptop,no physical switch...

oh on my old laptop there were two diffrent values one for headphones and one for speakers, check the availble channels in kmix you might find another channel that controls your speaker volume, however on the laptop i am at now there is no headphone option in kmix (or as a channel for that matter).
