grub problem

    grub problem

    Will do .

    Sigh as always one issue solved. And one new issue.
    Everything worked fine I did all the updates and finished my program. However, when i rebooted my pc it went to sh:grub>

    Found this website which made me real happy.
    Issue is:

    loopback loop0 /ubuntu/disks/root.disk
    set root=(loop0)

    Doesn't work.

    later when i try to boot it says it has issues with the root.

    contains errors and is confusing. The writer has no clue what he's doing.

    GRUB is the bootloader for Kubuntu (and most Linux operating systems). Recently, starting with Kubuntu 9.10, the older GRUB Legacy version (sometimes called GRUB 0.97) is being updated to a new version called GRUB 2 (which actually is at version 1.97 now). This is a period of transition; you might even say that in some ways, GRUB 2 is still a bit experimental. If you have a simple system, one hard drive, dual-booting Windows and Kubuntu, you should have no problems--or very few.

    For GRUB Legacy (used up through Kubuntu 9.04 and even in 9.10--you can choose to use it in 9.10):

    As for the loopback, it does work in 9.10, is used to boot iso's, for example, but has nothing to do with much of anything most users will ever need (unless a WUBI install is based on loopback mounting, I don't know).

    Sometimes when Kubuntu/Ubuntu or any OS receives updates, well, it may break certain things, as everyone knows. Not too big of deal, thanks to the forums where you can get help.

    When you are dropped to the grub prompt:
    sh:grub>
    one thing to do is simply re-install GRUB and see if that fixes things.
    You can do that from a Live CD.
    Or, get a copy of Super Grub Disk live CDROM, and use it to try to boot into your K/Ubuntu where you can fix things.

        I recently had the same problem...
        I started a topic here:

        Qqmike helped me alot...and now i am fine...

        What i would suggest is to take super grub disk(or SGD) from here:

        http://www.supergrubdisk.org/

        Burn it on a CD, or USB (as i did)...
        Than next time u boot, u set it to boot from a SGD (cd or USB whichever u used).
        SGD will guide you through the booting process, and once you are in Kubuntu, u can reinstall grub...and try rebooting again...
        If that doesn't work...let us now

                    the troubling part is that "they" don't intend on fixing this until April 2010. oh well.
