Problems with CF and SD cards

I am looking for some help with support for externally connected SD and CF memory cards.

I have an MFC with various card ports, if I plug in a card my device then says trying to connect to PC, device notifier pops up and I can open the new devise with dolphin ... but I cant write anything to the card and sometimes cant read from the card even though it's mounted. None of this was a problem with gloria, or jaunty - gnome. My MFC didn't display anything about connecting to PC it just gave me the card as a removable disk so I am guessing KDE is trying to do something that's causing the problem.

    Any ideas please

If it's not already installed, you might want to try installing the package usbmount.

But, it sounds like they are mounting correctly already, if they show up in Dolphin. What filesystem is on the cards? If they are FAT and have been "yanked" a few times without "safely ejecting", they can become corrupted. I use a version of this:

    http://www.sandisk.com/products/read...-usb-20-reader

to read SD and SDHC cards, and have no issues in Kubuntu 9.10 and sidux KDE4, so I know they can work correctly.
