No xorg.conf? How do I set up output to TV?

Hello,

I'm turning an old computer into a linux media center. Plugged the S-video output into the tv and...nothing. So I started googling, and found some guidance on getting such a configuration set up, but it all seems to start with "edit your xorg.conf" file. Well, /etc/X11/xorg.conf doesn't exist, and "locate xorg.conf" doesn't reveal anything. Do the newest versions of kubuntu use something different? Does anyone have any guidance on how to set this up now that xorg.conf is missing?

OK, that's not what you're looking for .....

Seriously, I'd go to the Ubuntu Forums, to the Multimedia forum, and do a search there. There's nothing different (well, not much) from Kubuntu to Ubuntu, regarding the functioning of HAL, which is what is now controlling your X.org display. You're going to have to figure out which ATI/Radeon driver will give you the best results, then configure /etc/X11/xorg.conf accordingly -- the Envy package may be part of the answer.

The xorg.conf is just a text file - in most cases the graphic system will work without it. If you need to make the xorg.conf you could make it with a text editor.

Press ALt + F2 and type "kdesudo kate /etc/X11/xorg.conf"
