how to save my files from my windows installation?

    this is the story:
i uploaded my computer. during the windows upload it crashed and now wont get in windows. i installed Kubuntu before (on the same drive - i've got only C drive) so i was thinking i'll be able to get the files back. for some reason - i can't see the files i used to have on my desktop (on windows). the computer takes lots of time to upload that folder (but it's empty). all other folders from that installation (windows) seem to be working fine. is there any way to get those files

    please help

Can you boot a Live CD (any Linux Live CD)?

If so, you should be able to

    (a) install ntfs-3g
    (b) mount whatever the partition is that has Windows on it, as "ntfs-3g" filesystem
    (c) find the Windows user's Desktop folder and copy whatever is in it to a USB stick or something like that.
