Question about installing softwares in LINUX operating system?

i have downloaded apache-ant-1.7.1 version from internet.
now i dont know how to install that in linux.

any ideas on how to install softwares in LINUX.
please tell me the commands and how to use them in TERMINAL

ant is in the official repositories. All you need to do is install it using your favorite package manager
