[SOLVED] - A vain hope of help undeleting a file

Does anyone know how to undelete a file in an Ext4 file system? I just realized that a bunch of files in a folder disappeared. It's been a while since I used these files last.

I'm fairly certain that the partition has had data written back and forth since then.

Are the files considered a goner? Is it worth trying anything?

And/or, try PhotoRec (it is part of TestDisk)
        http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec
But it doesn't look like it supports ext4 yet ... ?

On an ext3 filesystem, I have used a utility called ext3grep (in the repos)

I'm not certain if there is an equivalent for ext4 though

Re: A vain hope of help undeleting a file

            Thanks for the advice guys...

No, there was not an entry in the "Trash" folder. I'm really hoping that it wasn't a stray 'rm -rf' command that I put in that may have gotten rid of it.

By luck, it happens to be a perl file I created a while back. So I'm doing the following trying to get it back:

            Code:
            user@user: sudo magicrescue -d /media/Kingston/ -r /usr/share/magicrescue/recipes/perl /dev/sda5
            It found one perl file...

            Code:
            Found perl at 0x5031826FE
            score +10 for 0x00
            Score too high at 21526759578
            10 > 9
            /media/Kingston//0005031826FE-0.pl: 8603 bytes
But that wasn't it. It's still running. I will see what I find passed that.

              It found the file!!!

I recovered the lost file that I was looking for.

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU for helping me get this file back. It wasn't going to crash my system, but it was something I did not want thrown away.
