    Konquerer - advanced use?

    Hi,
I'm new to Kubuntu, and really loving 9.10! I have no plans to go back to Windoze, ever...

My question is about using Konqueror - I know it's ok as a web browser but I've heard and seen snippets here and there that it's useful for other things in Kubuntu as well.

Can someone please outline some of the advanced uses of Konqueror for me? I like getting the most out of software, and if Konqueror is capable of many things, I'd really like to find out more.

    Thanks!

It is also an file manager and FTP client. It can embed capabilities of many important KDE programs inside itself. And a lot more.

To learn more of what Konqueror can do, you must read The Konqueror Handbook. Do so from within Konqueror by pulling down the Help menu and choosing Konqueror Handbook.

Root Actions servicemenu provides a convenient way to perform several actions 'as root', from the right-click context menu in KDE filemanagers.
Written by kubicle. This makes Konqueror (or Dolphin) quite the file manager. It's one of the best 'add-ons' for Konqueror (or Dolphin) that anyone has come up with.

That looks great, thanks! I'll try that out tonight.

I use Konquerer and Dolphin all the time so this sounds like a great add-on for them!

Another one I learned from someone here at KFN: you can read man pages of your programs inside Konqueror using the man: protocol. Just type man:program_name into the location bar. It is pretty slick.

Also, try running konqueror --help in a Konsole window:

              Code:
              $ konqueror --help
              Usage: konqueror [Qt-options] [KDE-options] [KDE-tempfile-options] [options] [URL]

              Web browser, file manager, ...

              Generic options:
               --help Show help about options
               --help-qt Show Qt specific options
               --help-kde Show KDE specific options
               --help-kde-tempfile Show KDE-tempfile specific options
               --help-all Show all options
               --author Show author information
               -v, --version Show version information
               --license Show license information
               -- End of options

              Options:
--silent Start without a default window
               --preload Preload for later use
               --profile <profile> Profile to open
               --profiles List available profiles
--mimetype <mimetype> Mimetype to use for this URL (e.g. text/html or inode/directory)
--select For URLs that point to files, opens the directory and selects the file, instead of opening the actual file

              Arguments:
               URL Location to open
You can use those command line options from Kubuntu's Run Command dialog (Alt+F2) too. For example, I frequently use Alt+F2 -> konqueror --profile filemanagement. Of course you can replace filemanagement with the name of any profile you have created for yourself inside Konqueror.

Hmm, if we can get enough kontributions to this then it would make a nice sticky for How To's
