I have just installed Kubuntu 5.1 (I tried 6 but it kept freezing at the beginning of the install)

Once installed I cant enable the wireless network card which is detected due to not being able to put in the right administrator/root password. when I type it in and press enter nothing happens so I enter it again yet nothing happens. This happens on everything that requires the root/administrator password.

And from what I have read this password is the same as the user account. So how can I get it to work?

try this:

go to the recovery console from the boot menu

then change your user password with

passwd USERNAME
