    Second "Desktop" widget

    KDE 4.3 has a widget that displays desktop icons for starting up apps. Can I create a second folder so that I can setup a second set of .desktop files without modifying the first one?

    Yes. Another 'Folder View' widget can be added to the plasma desktop. It can then be changed to display the contents of a second folder of your choosing. The new .desktop files can be placed in the second folder.

      Geez, that was easy...

      Is there a way to hide the .desktop extension? When I tested this and created another folder, the name.desktop is visible instead of just the name.

      [EDIT] Display the "Name" field instead of the filename...

        You could "rename" the .desktop files, that is remove the extension. The KDE should understand that they are : "Desktop Config File (application/x-desktop)". as the .desktop files have that "[Desktop Entry]" at the top of the file.

        Testing:

        Making a "New Link to Application" => Test.desktop

        Renaming: Test.desktop => Test

        Check:
        Code:
        kfile /home/rog/Templates/Test
        /home/rog/Templates/Test: Desktop Config File (application/x-desktop)
        and the application is starting when clicking the "Test" Icon.
        Before you edit, BACKUP !

        Why there are dead links ?
