hi do i need to uninstall the plasma widget for networking if i,m going to install knetwork manager

If the packages conflict, your package manager will tell you.

In a command prompt type:

sudo apt-get update
apt-get install knetworkmanager

sample output:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree

hi yes i do have abit of an issue, i have copied the package to a folder home dir have unpacked it how do i install from there plz

It is not necessary to uninstall plasma widgets. However, if you would like to remove it from the desktop or panel, right click on the cashew or on the desktop. Select Unlock Widgets (the unlock icon). Right click the cashew or on the desktop again, this time click on Add Widgets (the green plus icon).

The add widgets dialog box will pop up. You can search for the widget by typing network in the search box at top. You will see a red minus symbol to the left of the widget name. Click on the red minus symbol. Hit Close at the bottom right.

The widget is now removed.

hi i done it the way you said all seemed to go ok with install how do i find the new network manager

I do not use it so I am not 100 percent sure.
Did you try browsing through Kmenu (start menu) under the applications>Internet tab?

Otherwise open a terminal and type:
knetworkmanager

This will open it and put a green globe icon in your system tray next to your sound icon
You can right click on it to access the menu.

(the & symbol will allow you to open a program independently of the command prompt)
try it both ways so you can see what I am talking about.
