Scan from Epson Stylus CX5500 in Jaunty

I am able to print to this printer, I don't think I had to do anything special. But I am unable to scan. I installed skanlite and it just says No scanner device has been found.

    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Hemal

I would give XSane a shot:
    https://help.ubuntu.com/9.04/printing/C/scanning.html

Take a look at the last section about libsane-extras

In general, Epson has done very little to help support your printer (HP is a much safer bet, they provide open source drivers):

But I hope you get lucky somehow!

I looked at the referred page and installed sane-extras. It says to uncomment the applicable drivers in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf but epson and epson2 are already uncommented. And running xsane report a similar error, no devices available.

The other URL you mention, http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_pr...-Stylus_CX5500, says this printer is paperweight and doesn't mention anything about scanning.

Does that mean this is dead-end?

Pretty much, yes. There is a little ray of light though:

But keep in mind that this is a 2 year old post , I am not sure it would work today. Worth a try, perhaps.

You may find the drivers you need here:

When all was said and done, I could not find any inexpensive HP scanners in current production that would work with Linux, and all I ever got from HP is, "We don't officially support Linux." I officially do not support windows, so I wound up shelving the HP, and bought an Epson v300, which has worked flawlessly. Epson will at least try to help.
Funny about that, HP does such a good job supporting their printers.

Mmm, the two HP "all in one" I've had all scanned perfectly !
