Re: need help with proposed new install of 9.04

You won't be making any changes to your existing 8.04 installation. 8.04 will still have / (root) on /dev/sda3 and /home on /dev/sda2.

If the /DATA partition is resized, and you create two new partitions out of the unallocated space, you'll have two new partions:
/dev/sda7 and /dev/sda8. These two partitions would be used for the 9.04 installation. 9.04 would have / on /dev/sda7 and /home on /dev/sda8.

I have three installations on my laptop (I triple-boot). So, I have three / partitions and three /home partitions. All is good. It doens't matter that you have multiple / and /home 'directories', as they are all on their own partitions.

Using partition magic I resized and created the 2 new partitions but saw no way of setting mount points using gparted. Can I do this when I install 9.04?

In GParted, you select the partition, then on the top menu bar click on Device. This is where you set the Label for the partition.

In installing 9.04, do I have to do anything to be sure 8.04 swap is shared with 9.04? And what about sharing 8.04 grub? I assume it was installed on 8.04root sda3.

Swap is swap. Just identify the swap partition you already have (you only need one) for use in 9.04.

What do you mean when you say 'sharing 8.04 grup?'

I want to know if I have to reedit grub cfg to be able to choose to boot 8.04, 9.04 or win2000 and if so how do I do it?
