Internet connection is one thing, and playing multimedia is another. If you have music and DVDs, there's no reason you need an Internet connection to play them. But you do need an Internet connection to install the multimedia support packages mentioned above. I don't know of any reasonable way to install them without an Internet connection.

It might be a little tedious but you could do it buy downloading all of the packages offline and installing them manually from http://packages.ubuntu.com/.

I think the mp3 library for playing mp3s is in: http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/gs...gly-multiverse

The tedious part will be getting any dependent packages you would need.

The command for installing a deb is:
      Code:
      sudo dpkg -i package.deb
For dvd support, I think the package you'll need is: http://packages.medibuntu.org/pool/f...ntu1_amd64.deb or
      http://packages.medibuntu.org/pool/f...untu1_i386.deb depending on your architecture.

I've never used, looks complicated, so I cannot personally recommend, AptOnCD. But have a look at "Create your own mobile Ubuntu repository with APTonCD" on
        http://www.ghacks.net/2009/09/12/cre...-with-aptoncd/

Similarly Keryx - "Need to install Linux software on an offline computer?" at http://keryxproject.org/

It might be considered sedition, but you could consider leaving Kubuntu in favour of say Linux Mint KDE - http://www.linuxmint.com/rel_gloria_kde.php . Mint is based on Ubuntu but it has the "restricted" packages added e.g. it will play mp3s and DVDs out-of-the-box.
