wired internet not working on Kubuntu 9.04 fresh install

Hi all,

Need help with my freshly-installed kubuntu 9.04. I plugged in the cat5 waited for a few seconds and tried going to google and several other sites. Every time it gave me an error. I even tried getting applications through terminal by saying:

sudo apt-get install firefox

Everything went through, but when it tried to connect to the mirror, the download stayed at "0%". PLEASE HELP!

Have you tried pluggin in the cable and rebooting while plugged in?

Networking is often a problem, (and not just for newbs). The first step is to figure out exactly what's gone wrong, so it can be fixed. We need as much detail as you can possibly give. Were you able to complete the Kubuntu installation over the internet? How did you try "going to google and some other sites"? Were you able to install Firefox? Please give us THE EXACT WORDING of any error messages that you get when something fails. Have pencil and paper handy.
