trouble finding right sound driver

So I'm trying to get my sound to work and I am following the suggestions posted on the thread at

Thanks for the response, the problem I am having is that I do not have any sound what so ever, no effects, no music, no sounds on any videos, i figure that if I followed the steps as listed on the discussion referenced I could get my sound going. So when I run the code aplay -l for step 1 this is what I get

have you looked in Kmix to see if all the sliders are up on all outputs and that you'v made them
avalabel in the setings?

and have selected a master?

If only it were that easy, I tried alsamixer and turned all the levels up, with the exception of the headphones which I was unable to change most likely because I dont have any connected, I guess I am more lost than ever.....sigh

Here are some things to check:
Do you know that the speakers are working?
Do you get the system sound when you boot up?
Can you play a sound file directly such as by typing
"aplay file.wav"?

This may not work for you, but I found the following fix to be effective:

asoundconf list

That gives the system name for your card which you use here:

sudo asoundconf set-default-card name

It gives you a warning about doing this as root, since this should normally
be done as a regular user. However, I found that doing it as root
(ie. with sudo) made the system work. Perhaps you should
try it first without the sudo.

Well the speakers were working fine when I had Windows Vista running as my OS. The problem all began when I installed Kubuntu, which I really enjoy alot more than windows Vista. I am not getting any sound when I boot up and when I try playing a wav file it seems to be running properly, with the exception of not hearing anything what so ever, here is what happened when I used the aplay command

Playing WAVE 'daffyduck1.wav' : Unsigned 8 bit, Rate 11025 Hz, Mono

now as for finding the name of my sound card It came out to be Intel so I ran the command

sudo asoundconf set-default-Intel

which gave back

Usage:
asoundconf is-active
asoundconf get|delete PARAMETER
asoundconf set PARAMETER VALUE
asoundconf list

Convenience macro functions:
asoundconf set-default-card PARAMETER
asoundconf reset-default-card
asoundconf set-pulseaudio

then I tried playing the same wav file but I still didn't get any sound, Thanks for the tip anyways.

Well I see the mistake I made so I ran the correct command

sudo asoundconf set-default-card Intel

I was then asked to input my password which I did and this is what I got back

Please note that you are attempting to run asoundconf as a privileged superuser, which may have unintended consequences.

I then tried to aplay a wav file and ended up with the same results, that being that the wav file runs just fine but i still don't have any sound.

That's the message I was referring to earlier regarding root. Anyway, I have one last suggestion and that is just something that I have heard here a few times. Turn off the SPDIF. Apparently on some sound cards, when digital is on analogue is off. I am not exactly sure what it will be under in alsamixer but probably something like IEC958. The thing to note here is that turning everything on could turn something else off.

In alsamixer, the positions which have (MM) under them, can be "M"uted by pressing the "M" key on your keyboard. You can get more information on alsamixer by typing "man alsamixer".

Like I said, I am not sure which one exactly you have to turn off. I'm not even sure if you have this situation. It was just an idea. The main point is that (from what I have read) on some boards you have to turn off the digital output in order to get the analogue output. To me at least, this would not be obvious. It does make some kind of sense though - one just needs to know.
