    - try Skype - Options - Sound devices - Sound In - something different from default, for example HDA Intel hw intel 0
    - if it still doesn't work try external microphone
    - if you have firewall try open port 23399 see Options - Advanced
    - are you sure that video isn't fault of another person?

I can't help with the webcam (problem might be similar) but the microphone is probably not set to capture. I never found a way to set it using kmix. You need to run alsamixer from the command line. When you run alsamixer you should find two items labeled Capture. They need to be set to CAPTUR (use the space bar to toggle the setting). Once you do that your microphone should start capturing sound and work in Skype.

Open a terminal (Applications/System/Terminal in the Kmenu) and type alsamixer at the command line. I am running Skype 2.1.0.47 which is not in the repository if I remember correctly. It works a lot better with Pulseaudio. In fact, all the Sound device options are gone in the latest release. The only choice is Pulseaudio.

I didn't tell you to change the volume. My volume was set fine too. You need to set the Capture devices (Not Mic) to CAPTUR. If you don't have Capture devices listed in alsamixer your problem might be different than what I experienced. I had the exact same problem you described: everything worked except the microphone. I had to activate CAPTUR on the devices listed as Capture in alsamixer to fix it.

That's it? I have 19 options in alsamixer when I run it. I'm going to be away for a few hours. Hopefully somebody can continue assisting you if your problem is different.

Open KMix then Settings/Configure Channels. Is Mic selected?

Presumably something else is wrong, but just for the record, here is the way to get a list of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices:
                      Code:
                      aplay -l
I found a couple of things which might be interesting. A bug report regarding the microphone on your model of laptop. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ux/+bug/386858
There seems to be a number of posts relating to this, but I guess you've seen them.

The ALSA SoundCard Matrix doesn't seem to have your card. I'm not always the brightest light, so perhaps you should look for yourself: http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Main
I could be that you first need to get a driver for your sound card.
