I am on 8.04. When I try to install a program in wine, it fails to install. The program requires .NET which may be the reason. Can anyone tell me how to move forward. I might need to upgrade wine and install .NET.

Re: .NET in wine
Have you checked the list of working apps?
http://appdb.winehq.org/
It might help folks here to know the specific app you are trying to install, and what sort of errors you encounter.

Re: .NET in wine
The program is Turbo trader 2 From Global Futures and is not on the list. I am told it needs .NET. The message I get back is from the program itself saying it was not installed. Could it cause any problems for me to install one of the .NET packages (which one?) into wine from
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=3754
and see how it goes?

Re: .NET in wine
I've had good results using this script to install some "extra" libraries
http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks
You might want to consider installing into a unique WINEPREFIX in case something goes wrong.

Add the following repo if you choose to:
deb http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt hardy main #WineHQ - Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron"
More instructions...
http://www.winehq.org/download/deb
But I don't think that will necessary solve you issue.
