batch resize video files with Kubuntu

I have a bunch of video files that I would like to resize from various widths to 640 wide. So what I'll need to do is keep the aspect ratio, resize to 640 wide by 'whatever' high, and save a new file.

Anyone know of a command line video tool that I can script to do this?
