    Controlling system volume via terminal

    Hey, guys.

I've started learning Linux and I decided to do it in the console first (GUI not loaded).
I have a question though.. I've noticed that whenever I start Linux without a GUI, system volume is always muted. I cannot listen to music. How do I change that? I'm interested in Mute/UnMute/VolumeUp/VolumeDown commands.
    Thanx in advance.

(12:25:05) theadmin: What is the console program for controlling volume again?
    (12:25:23) shadeslayer: theadmin: alsamixer
    Does this help?

If you are starting from scratch try

      Rute User's Tutorial and Exposition

Its a nice book, free download and available on paper.
