    Thinking of upgrading to KDE 4.3 from KDE 4.2

    So, new KDE, new upgrade?

    My system is currently working to my satisfaction. Do I have anything to gain by upgrading to KDE 4.3 or should I just wait until Karmic Koala comes out? Is there anything I should be aware of?

    Thanks for any input, folks, and apologies for the "general" tone of the question.

    I see you have only 96 posts. That suggests you are a newbie to Kubuntu, if not Linux.

    While I found upgrading to KDE4.3 wasn't particular difficult, there are some potholes in the road, and wrong choices at those holes may bork your system.

    IF your system is working fine then I would not upgrade to KDE 4.3. Instead, I would wait until Karmic went Gold in October, and reinstall from the release ISO.

      Which is all that should matter. Not knowing the particulars of your system and thus its capabilities and limitations, one can't begin to profer an informed answer to your question.

        kde 4.3, its not an official update(for jaunty), and there for should not be expected to work or install with out a few issues.

        you can check out the kde 4.3 changelog to see what you could be "missing out on" as you put it .

        but there is no need to update yet, you can have issues upgrading, and ruin your "working install".
        to put it very simply,
        i have installed this upgrade on 4 machine's, only 1 worked perfect w/ no issues, if you do upgrade expect a 75% chance of install issue(s).

        if you don't want to deal with issues since it sounds like you machine is set up the way you like it then don't upgrade.

            Thanks all for the info about % of computers with upgrade issues... I think I'll give it a pass until the KK update. I normally love to tinker but I'm in a tight time right now with bar review stuff so I'd rather not have to wipe my system and reinstall from scratch!

            Running a standard install of 9.04 Kubuntu at the moment, for those curious about my OS.

              Yeah. At the end of the day, it's totally up to your personal preference.

              To me, the improvement in KDE 4.3 is worth the hassle.
