    Filesystem corruption, how to fix?

Kubuntu 8.10, sort of a newbie here.

In my home directory is a file named ?&'?bv?yb?04?,?efyyyB?..... (it goes on for another 20 garbage characters).

How can I check the filesystem for corruption and fix it? This was installed with the default filesystem type.

    TIA

    Hi

This is more likely to be a random save from a text editor than filesystem corruption. But an easy way to force a fs check is to reboot in Rescue Mode and choose the option to do just that

OK, thanks. I just deleted it and will check for corruption on next boot.

Those seem like some strange temporary file names. Does Kate do that? I usually use vi but have used Kate on occasion.

No, I don't think Kate would do this. I am not sure who is producing those files really. I also some times see randomly named files in my eeepc 701, which has LOT of hardware issues. One of them is the keyboard going nuts all the time (some keys don't work, some produce random characters and so forth). I wonder if the keyboard is calling some actions at random (on open programs) that end up producing this ...
