    Y! Messenger for KUbuntu...how?

    Hi!

I've just used KUbuntu for two weeks and I like the environment. However, I cannot chat with other people using the using..or I shall say I don't know how to make it work for me.

    Is there any other alternative?

Any immediate response will be highly appreciated.

Thank you very much...KUbuntu is so light and easy to use! Keep up the good work, KUbuntuers!

The KDE specific answer: Kopete http://kopete.kde.org/ (You should be able to find it in the repositories via whatever package manager the powers that be are hawking this release, or something more reasonable like apt-get in the command line, or synaptic if you'd rather a gui)

A lot of people on Kubuntu, me included, also use Pidgin http://pidgin.im/ which should also be available in the repositories... though I did follow their directions to add their repository to my sources list (http://pidgin.im/download/ubuntu/), so I could easily have the latest version direct from the project.

Either program should work beautifully, I personally have experience with pidgin for Y! Messanger and it seems to work just fine for me. Hope that all helps!

      Try either Kopete or Pidgin.
Both are in the repositories, and work with Yahoo, although neither support video or audio chats, as far as I know.

Yahoo messenger itself works, but not perfectly, with wine.

        Death Kitten and doctordruidphd,

Thank you for your immediate response and light for the question.

Is there any way you can tell me step by step how to install Pidgin from the scratch?

        Thank you again.

        Keep going, KUbuntuers!

          1)Open Konsole (Kickoff -> Applications -> System -> Konsole)
          2)Type "sudo apt-get install pidgin"
          3)Enter your password
4)If asked "Do you want to continue?", type "y" and press Enter.
5)Wait for the download to finish. It should display something like "yourName@yourComputerName: folder" when done (the normal shell prompt)
6)You now have Pidgin in Kickoff -> Applications -> Internet
