Desktop is blank apart from Widgets

Hi all
Ubuntu 9.04, just added Kubuntu-desktop. On first use, there was an error message telling me that something had failed on the desktop (sorry, didn't note it down). Now I cannot see any files, shortcuts or the trash bin on the desktop, all I can see are the two widgets I added. I can see the desktop items with Dolphin no problem.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

Right-click the desktop and go to Desktop Settings and in the Desktop Activity switch the Type from Desktop to Folderview.

I think the trash will need to be added as a separate widget though.

The other "fix" for your problem was to Unlock Widgets and then add the Folder View widget... that would show all your Desktop folder items in a "folder" on the desktop. Note that you could also have it display the contents of any other folder you want, and/or filter specific filetypes, etc.
