[SOLVED] Help "connecting" partitions.

So i have two partitions, one mounted to root point (/) and the other to /mnt/part2. I want to glue them together, so they will be at /. Is it possible without losing the info on first partition, the / one?

Generally this is possible.

There various ways of doing this but I would back up first

Can I ask why you wish to merge your partitions.

I ask because it is always a safe proposition to have data on a separate partition.

Well, whatever the reason you ask, i can answer.
I just want / partition to be the only one (except my 2GB swap partition), cause way linux makes filesystems pretty much causes me to want to save stuff only in /home/username. Besides, if i want to apt-get something it will install it somewhere on /, which can have not enough space.

Okay, well I take it you want to put the data that is on the /mnt/part2 into /home/username?

In that case backup your data on /mnt/part2

Then get partimage livecd:
http://www.partimage.org/Download

Boot the cd.
Use gparted to delete you /mnt/part2 partition then resize your / partition to the size you want it to be.

Make sure you know which partition is which!!!

Now you can copy your data to your /home/username folder.

You could use gparted to merge your partitions but that would be messy as you would have all the files from /mnt/part2 all over your / partition.

My /mnt/part2 partition was empty, it was the former windows partition but i formatted it cause i need no windows. Thanks for telling how to make it, though.

OKay, that makes things a lot easier. Just resize with partimage livecd -> gparted
