Can Android phones connect?

Ok, so maybe I'm not a newbie, but I am when it comes to mobile phones.

Whilst I know the Ubuntu guys are looking at getting Android working for Ubuntu's netbook system, I have to wonder, can Kubuntu (or, indeed, any application therein) connect to an Android phone?

What I acutally meant is that if I hook my Android phone up to my computer via USB, can it connect to it and be mounted by the system (so I can put my music and photos on there?)

not so shure about that one if it has an option to read as storage yes of corse but I'm not shure try it and see

Yes it can. I have a G1 (HTC Dream)...actually answering this post from it...and it mounts just fine in Kubuntu. I will also say that this is the best phone I have ever owned!

Thank you for that. I'm planning to quit smoking and get the HTC Magic with Android. I would get the dream but I heard of a few problems with it...mind you, a full keyboard WOULD be nice....

I have a GI too, great phone, and I love Android. I was checking out the Magic but no keyboard is a deal breaker for me. The G1 works well under Linux with the USB. Bluetooth is another story. My one wish is the ability to transfer files over Bluetooth to my G1. Anyone checking out the new features in Donut, the next Android release? The big one is support for CDMA which means Verizon may have an Android phone in the near future.

Yeah, two updates, the original cupcake plus a second update with bug fixes and performance improvements. We have an on-screen keyboard now plus live folders which is pretty neat. Google is promising at least 3 or 4 more updates before the end of year.

Good! This is what I like about Google, things like Android. Very human company, quite trustworthy.
