    Problems Starting Install

Hi, I'm new to this whole Kubuntu movement, but really would like to try it out.

My problem is installing the actual O.S.

I've tried "acpi=off"; "noacip"; "nolapic" and "pnpbios=off", but it always freezes on the screen after hitting enter.

Can anyone help me, I have no idea where to go from here.

Any help would be appreciated, Thanx.

    Hi there,

Can you give us a few more details? What computer are you using? And how are you installing: did you choose the install option from the install CD? have you been able to boot from the CD itself? (That is, did you try the 'Try Kubuntu without changing your computer' option?)

If you can answer those people will be better able to help you.

Don't be put off, though. We all have teething troubles!

I've tried both the install options, and the "try kubuntu without changing your computer".

      It's a Toshiba Satelite A60-662
      2.8 GHz Intel Celeron
      512 Mb RAM
      64 Mb Graphics adapter
      40 Gb HDD

It shows the initial screen, where you can choose all the options, but always freezes a few seconds after hitting the install option.

Check the md5sum of the .iso - it should be on the page you downloaded the .iso from, then, as Vinny says, if necessary burn it slowly, 4X is recommended.

When you stuff it in the drive, first select <Check CD for defects>.
