internal system error when searching for installs in kpackagekit

I've had Ubuntu installed before but never really did much with it. I put ubuntu on this NX9010 but was having keyboard issues and decided to go with Kubuntu. I have always liked KDE better. I noticed firefox was not installed so I went to install. When I type firefox into the search box I get and error window "an internal system error has occured". For details I get "The backend took too much time to process the synchronous request - you need to fork!."

Any ideas? I get the same error when trying to do software updates.

Please help. I live with windows all day and use it on my main LT but really want to start playing with this again. It will start out as my shop/kitchen Laptop but I'm thinking of going full blown ubuntu/kubuntu.

    Thanks

Also i ran a sudo apt-get install upgrade and this did not fix the error either.

    Thanks

kpackagekit seems to be having a lot of issues so here is what do first when I do an install:
      Code:
      sudo apt-get install synaptic
      in a terminal.

You will be prompted for your password (you won0't see anything, that is normal). Type it in and press "enter"

while you are at it you can also do:
      Code:
      sudo apt-get install synaptic firefox
That will give you synaptic and Firefox in one go

Synaptic is rock solid and has many features.

If you want to easliy upgrade to FF3.5 have a look here:

      instead of doing:
      Code:
      ubuntuzilla.py
      you may have to do:
      Code:
      ubuntuzilla.py -g
depending on which Kubuntu you are installing.

I'm running jaunty. Although I may stick with Konqueror. I did install FF 3.5 last night using supdo apt-get install Firefox3.5. I get the same issues with it in Kubuntu as I did in Ubuntu. It's just the speed of the machine I think. It's a Celeron LT at like 2.2ghz and a gig of memory. Nothing flashy. Will work for now.

        Thanks
