    I cannot install widgets...

So I've encountered this problem before & would really like to fix it.

I right click my menu bar & click on "Add Widgets" (the green plus). This brings up the Add Widgets window. I then click "Install New Widgets" at the bottom, then "Download New Plasma Widgets" from the drop down box.

Then, no matter what widget I select & install, I receive an error in installation.

For example. I click "Install" next to the gmail-plasmoid, then close out of the "Get Hot New Stuff - Plasma Workspace" window. Immediately, an Installation Failed - Plasma Workspace window pops up with the following error message:

    "Installation of /tmp/kde-michael///101229-gmail-plasmoid-0.7.9.plasmoid failed!"

    Then another error message:

    "Installation of /tmp/kde-michael/// failed!"

Does anyone know why I am having this problem?

I let the bar at the bottom reach 100% & then some.

I'll try leaving one open for an hour or so...just for a sanity check.

      Any other ideas?

Yes, it does change to uninstall.

What is odd is that sometimes it will say that it failed & it will still appear in my installed widget list. (Sometimes functional, most of the time not). However, almost every widget that I really want doesnt appear in the list at all.

But regardless, I get a failed install message every time.

I have installed many language and library packages. Are there any that are required that I may not have? Any that may be conflicting?

I do have the latest Kubuntu build.

thats a good queshton.....did you insall from the repos.

you could try apt-get to check for broken dependenceys

            do

            Code:
            sudo apt-get update
            sudo apt-get upgrade
            sudo apt-get check
            sudo apt-get -f install
            couldent hurt.

              How do you restart plasma?

I've also tried to manually install widgets. Installation is successful, however the widget does not appear in the list

                  e.g. : http://www.kde-look.org/content/show...content=100337

                  untar, cd
                  mkdir build
                  cd build
                  cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde4-config --prefix` ..
                  make
                  sudo make install

One possibility is that you need to install a core package. You don't say what version of Kubuntu and KDE4 you have but IIRC I used to get this. Open your package manager and do a search for plasma. You may well need to install a couple of extra packages containing the key words plasma widgets (and may also contain the word "extras" or "addons"). Some widgets that are listed in the add widgets dialog box are separate packages that you should locate within there too. Have a look and see if anything leaps out. My suspicion is that you will find one package in there, the installation of which will make life much easier for you.

                      Re: I cannot install widgets...

Using synaptic, here are a few that caught my eye:

                      superkaramba
                      libplasma2.0-cil

The rest of the uninstalled packages were widgets.

I installed both of these. No fix.

I had this same problem. However, the widgets would appear anyway. I just ignored it.

It could be a user issue as well. Wrong user ID kept popping up in this context sometimes (I was user 1000, and 0 was root, and my system was apparently confusing them or I was not keeping them adequately separate... not sure).

Not sure if this helps but if it's working for you, I'd just ignore the error message.

Well sometimes they will still appear in the install list & sometimes they wont. Also, sometime when they do appear, they are not fully functional. e.g. Luna ; the moon is always dark.

I have a completely fresh install of Kubuntu jaunty. The only thing I have done is install my ati video drivers.

...yet I'm having the exact same problem as above
