    How to tell kubuntu what programm opens what file extension

    Hi all,

    This is for me an annoying thing so you have to save me here. Every time i want to open a file or download one I get the question hoe to open but I do not know how to answer this. The pop-up asks me to point the software but I don't know where to look for it. Does anybody know how to set this permanent for all extensions?

    .xls = open with = openoffice
    .pdf = open with = adobe?
    .eml = open with = Thunderbird

    and so on.

    find a file of the type you want to asosheate with a program......lets use .xls
    rite click the .xls file click propertys when the property's window opens on the genral tab thars a rench icon on the right....click it move the program you want to be the default for opening it to the top of the list

    if a popup asks for the location of a program MOST of them live in /usr/bin

          mmm... On my system it is located at:

          KMenu --> System --> SystemSettings --> Advanced tab --> file associations.

            I think that system settings must be appearing on Vinny's favourites (as it does on mine) Greygeek, hence it's visible as soon as you hit the K menu button, which would explain the apparent difference in path.

            Are you using Lancelot, by any chance?

              Nope. Not using Lancelot.

              If his "setings" were under "favorites" the path would be:

              KMenu --> Favorites --> SystemSettings

              (which is what my favorites shows)

                  That's what I thought - when you use the vanilla kickoff, hitting the kmenu button always opens the "favourites" tab.

                  No big deal
