I cannot boot without Kubuntu CD.

    Hey there,
I am brand new to linux. My problem is that I cannot boot my computer without the Kubuntu CD in the drive. When I try to boot without the CD the computer asks me to put the boot CD back in and press any key. The weird thing is that I have not even installed Kubuntu on my computer. I tried to install once before and my computer lid was closed after a few seconds of the install running and it went to sleep. When I am trying to access my Windows Vista and I feel like an idiot for not being able to figure this out. Any help would be great. Thanks.p

strang .....sounds like eather you'v borked the MBR or corupted the file system.

    did the install finish?

can you boot to safe moad or windows comand prompt? (hiting F8 during boot)

do you have a vista cd ?

and if you finish the install you may get things back but first anser these Q's befor finishing the install. and please read up on instaling with visa first.

      Importguy,

Could you please answer VINNY and also answer the following?

When you do insert the CD. What exactly happens? Do you see an option to boot Vista? Do you get the installer again? Or do you get a full Linux session?

We need a lot more info in order to help you, I have other questions but it's not worth the time unless you are still around ...

Re: I cannot boot without Kubuntu CD.

If I read you right, I think you have hibernated or (most likely) suspended the PC whilst running kubuntu. Therefore it may well be necessary to do what the system wants to do and let it reboot into kubuntu. Then shut it down properly. Just before shutting down it will ask you to remove the CD and hit enter. It will properly shut down then and hopefully this issue will have gone.
