I was wondering if i have to download the AMD 64 version of Kubuntu instead of using the Free Disk i ordered to get it to work. I have heard many problems with the AMD 64 line of processors when using older versions of kubuntu. Will this affect me with Jaunty Jackalope?

Everything working perfectly here in 64 bits. Every little thing.

Of course a 32 bit version will run too, it will just miss some of the perfomance gains you will get in 64 bits ...

Originally posted by Andysalina5thanks for the quick reply but what i meant to say is, Is the Kubuntu disk that i ordered the same as the amd 64 version that is available for download on the kubuntu site.
It is my understanding that the CDs that are shipped are 32 bit, since shipit offers no choice between 32 or 64 bit ISOs. Amazon offers only the 32 bit version of Kubuntu 9.04, as far as I was able to determine.
It appears to me that if you want to use the 64bit version you must download it and burn it Both the 32bit and the 64bit ISO are 695MB downloads. If you have a fast Internet connection there is no need to download the DVD because it won't contain the updates or latest apps anyway.

Re: Will the Kubuntu disk I ordered work with my AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core
I am using a Sony VAIO VGN-FW140E/H notebook. It came pre-installed with VISTA Home Premium when I bought it, so I never bothered to notice it bus width. A few wees ago someone asked me so I checked a review and discovered that it was a 64bit machine, which I should have realized, since most PCs are 64 bit (dual core) these days.
I burned the 64bit ISO and ran it as a livecD. It ran from the DVD drive about as fast as this 32bit version runs from the HD. The accelerated video is about 20% faster with 64bit. To run some 32bit programs you will be asked to install some 32bit compatibility libraries. That's the reason why I didn't replace mmy 32bit version."A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.”
