    Best DVD playback?

The default DVD player on ubuntu 9.04 (Dragon Player) does not have very good playback in my opinion. Is there a better DVD player out there for Linux. I'm looking for better resolution and a menu with pause, stop, play, ff and rewind... ect.
Sorry for my n00b-ness I'm brand new to Linux.

I've been pretty happy with VLC, so I can second that recommendation.

Yes to VLC. Version 1.0.0 was just released and is in a ppa repository.

              Read more info here:
              http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-ubuntu.html

              Basically these are the steps:

              1. In your konsole type
              Code:
              kdesudo kate /etc/apt/sources.list
              2. Enter your root password when asked.

              3. Add these lines to the end of the 'sources.list' file 4. Save the file but don't close.

              5. Back to konsole, start a new tab/session. Type
              Code:
              sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 7613768D
              to get the signing key

              6. Type
              Code:
              sudo apt-get update
              and then --

              a. If you have previous vlc
              Code:
              sudo apt-get upgrade
              b. If you haven't installed vlc yet
              Code:
              sudo apt-get install vlc
              7. After upgrading / installing vlc, go back to kate where sources.list is still open. There either u delete the last line or comment it out by typing "#" (without quotes) at the beginning of the last line. Then save the file and quit.

This should do the job. Hope it helps.

              Cheers!!

Actually, I would not comment out the repository, in case there are updates to vlc.

That is true. But I can't recommend newbies to keep the unofficial repos open. I feel that is risky.

I wouldn't think a VLC repository can do much harm :P
