    Can't use apt-get or synaptic, crashes and I get "Segmentation fault" ????

    1.Apt-get wont let me remove or install apps. I get a " Segmentation fault" when I execute the command

    2.Synaptic gives me a second gui and then it gone. Tried opening synaptic with konsole as root and still it pops up gui for a split seconds and crashes.

    Any idea how to repair please

    Few picks from the Google (apt-get Segmentation fault):

    > apt-get and apt-cache Segmentation fault (core dumped)
    > Apt-get segmentation fault

    => I have not tried these =>

    Try first with the command:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get -f install
    man apt-get
    -f, --fix-broken

    Fix; attempt to correct a system with broken dependencies in place. This option, when used with install/remove, can omit any packages to permit APT to deduce a likely solution.
    If that did't help try to rename/move/(remove) /var/cache/apt/*.bin or/and files at the /var/lib/apt/lists
    Before you edit, BACKUP !

    Why there are dead links ?

      Thanks for your reply, I fixed the problem before I read this.
      I altered something on VLC in regards to it opening video files and I think this caused the problem.
      Once I undid what I did on VLC everything seemed to work again.
