    Change the splash?

I've installed some splash screens by going to K-menu/system settings/appearance/splash screen and installed several by clicking on add new theme.

But none that I downloaded show on the screen, its just the same default ones.

I tried clicking the "add file" thinking maybe the themes get saved somewhere on the computer and I have to go retrieve them but then I have no idea where they were saved to.

Ive tried searching this topic but was not able to find what I think Im looking for.

Im new to kubuntu/linux, any help would be appreciated.

    Using KDE 4.2

    KDE Splash

    How things should work

System Settings > Appearance > Splash Screen

Clicking "Get New Themes" > "Get Hot New Stuff" window pops up

Clicking the "Install" button. The theme is downloaded and unpacked to the ~/.kde/share/apps/ksplash/Themes/.

Picking the theme from the Theme Manager and clicking the Apply or/and Test Theme

The KDE Splash is installed and working

    The Reality

Testing with the three of the latest themes: Carbon, Oxygen Blue Air and Full Sailz.

Carbon -> Downloads, unpacks, and is working OK with the "Get New Themes"

Oxygen Blue Air is using an external download page (http://www.filefactory.com/) so it won't work with the "Get New Themes"

Full Sailz is using an external download page (https://www.qdrive.net/) so it won't work with the "Get New Themes".

    Example

With the Oxygen Blue Air you need to go to the > KDE-Look.org >> Oxygen Blue Air. The download button is a link to the Filefactory download page and there you could find the OxygenBlueAir_KSplash.tar.gz

When the theme archive is downloaded you could install it:

System Settings > Appearance > Splash Screen
Clicking "Install Theme File". "Add Theme" window pops up.
Drag & Dropping the OxygenBlueAir_KSplash.tar.gz from the Dolphin window to the "Add Theme" window (Name: ). The Theme manager will unpack the theme to the ~/.kde/share/apps/ksplash/Themes/

The KDE Splash is installed and working

      Good post
I had been wondering why some worked and others didn't
