Updated Kernel Now Video Configuration Won't Work

I just ran the latest kernel update today, using sudo install dist-upgrade.

When I rebooted the following message appeared:

Following Error Was Encountered. You May Need to Update Your Configuration to Solve:

(EE) Failed to load module "type 1" (module does not exist, 0)

(EE) Failed to load module "freetype" (module does not exist, 0)

(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize NVIDIA kernel, please see the systems' kernel log for additional error messages and consult NVIDIA Reademe

    ****ABORTING****

Screen(s) found, but non hvae usable configuration.

What gives? How can I get my lovely KDE back?

This happened to me too... I had to reboot and at grub I chose the previous kernel option.
I'll be watching this thread for help!

Re: Updated Kernel Now Video Configuration Won't Work

I'm back and up and working with the new kernel.

I rebooted to a shell terminal and ...

      sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-185.18.14-pkg1.run

followed the script which added the drivers to the new kernel. The numbers after "NVIDIA-Linux-xxx-xxx.xx.xx-pkg1.run may be different for other people. I got this script from www.nvidia.com based on my arch.

Are you coming back in recovery mode or in a previous kernel or on another machine or what?

I was coming back in console mode. I finally gave up and did a fresh installation.
