Don't know about 8.10 but my

Sony VAIO VGN-FW140E/H

works perfectly with Kubuntu 9.04 running KDE4.2.4

I've run Kubuntu 8.04, 8.10 and now 9.04 with no problems on this - a HP Compaq nc6400 (2006 June) notebook. I have also run them on my wife's Asus A6 and an older Toshiba Satelite A45 - all without any problem.

You can Tuxmobile for any specific brand and model.

I suspect that most laptops made within the last five or so years would run the current Kubuntu with no problems.

I have run a live usb kubuntu 9.04 on this laptop here for months with no probs which is a lenovo thinkpad T60 with no troubles. I also have installed the same system on an old toshiba satellite like 4-5 years old if not older. I know its very old because the person who used it has been gone 3 years and they had it a few years

again no worries about using it on there although because of its age and components it is a little slow but still faster on kubuntu than my work laptop( t60) on windows and that is 2 years old

Avoid Dell notebooks with Intel onboard graphics with Kubuntu 9.04, see http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3104274.0 for example. I hope it is temporary.

On the question of Dell they have launched a model n15 with Ubuntu 8.10 on it. It's getting good feedback at the ubuntu forum.

Yeh ...not in the UK either

You have to pay out £300 for a windows or get a nice new 10v with ubuntu for £199..just have to add a little more hard drive
