Hey everyone,
So I've been up and running in Kubuntu for a few days now, getting to know the environment and customize everything, and I love how sleeklined KDE 4.x looks. Today, I was experimenting with trying to install my nVidia geForce FX 5600 driver so that I could have a higher resolution, because even at the current max, which is 1200x968? i think right now, i don't seem to have enough desktop space, whereas in Windows at 1152x864 I have almost too MUCH space, and after restarting my KDE isnt loading at all. It shows me the full-screen terminal windows (which are normally accessible by pressing ctrl+alt+fkeys) and asks me to login. i login and i can browse my files, see everything through the terminal, but i'd my KDE to go back to loading.
Does anyone have any steps I could follow to diagnose this problem?
Also another MAJOR problem I seem to be having is when I go to shut down, the shutdown procedure hangs on "Shutting down Bluetooth"....i've left it alone and it just hangs until I have to hard shut down my computer, and I think that is what is causing my problem with KDE not loading. I have made alot of changes to my install in these few days as i'm learning which programs i need/dont need and like/dont like so i hope that isnt compromising the stablity of my linux install. I want to note that i dont HAVE any bluetooth devices, and when i first installed kubuntu i never had this problem.
Just to save time/effort, my specs are as follows:
2.53 ghZ pentium 4
256 mb nVidia geforce fx 5600 gfx card
AC '97 audio integrated
1gb RAM
Running Kubuntu 9.04 (jaunty) dual-booted alongside Windows XP SP2 Home Edition
and i cant think of what other specs might be necessary.
And just a final thing: is there any way to back up my specifications or programs/packages/settings so that I know what to install when i finally do a clean install of kubuntu? the current install is just to get acquainted with the OS, but i eventually want to re-install but be able to reference some document as to what my settings were, what programs were installed, etc. is there any way to accomplish this?
I have a list of questions/issues I wanted to ask, but a few of them I cant remember, and the others are, ironically, saved on my linux partition which I can't access through windows! so until then, that is all my questions for now. I hope to get a response, and will google in the meantime to try and find a solution.
Thanks for any help,
K. Anwar
If I left out any necessary information, please let me know.
