OK, sounds like they are mounting, just not displaying. I have never tried plugging things in while booting. Since the device notifier is part of kde, and starting kdm is pretty close to the end of the bootup process, my guess is that they are actually mounted before the device notifier activates, so it "assumes" the external devices are part of the system and doesn't show them.

I'm not sure if they are really mounted. Because /media contains jusr cdrom dir after starting up.
But when I open them with dolphin, are mounted and accessible in /media

Thanks for help guys! I already filled the bug about auto-mounting in Kubuntu.

But I don't expect from it much. They already closed it as invalid.
Is this bothers only me? I don't get, why they make things more complicated...

FWIW. this thread just helped me solve my automount problems without starting a new thread. Thanks to all who contributed.
