kde 4.1 is hanging after logon

Hi guys,
I'm new on linux. I just installed a audio driver for Realtek HD Audio. The installation worked fine but I had no sound on my internal speakers, only with external speakers. After i configured the alsa-mixer for internal speakers and I rebooted, i have 10 secs after logging on and then kde hangs. With Ctrl+Alt+F1 i can reach a shell prompt.
EDIT: I forgot to tell that compiz fusion is installed, if this helps.

Hi, would you mind telling me the proceedure for installing the realtek hd audio driver. I am new to Linux and the sound that I am getting with the KDE driver is awful. I really am new to this so if you have the time a step by step account would be great.
