How to install an audio driver

Been using Kubuntu (KDE 4) for a couple of weeks now and like it a lot (fed up of how bloated Windows is getting), but it really is like starting again, so despite being very able with hardware and Windows I am at a bit of a loss. I am currently using Pulse Audio, but would like to install a realtek driver (which I have already downloaded) for my motherboard. I am realize that I need to open a terminal but beyond that I have no idea how to proceed. Is there a step by step guide for this or a current post on this subject anywhere?

    Thanks.

    Hi

Is there any reason for you wanting to do this, e.g poor performance by the installed driver?

Hi, yes the installed driver is a bit rubbish I have to turn everything up to the max. If you have a the method to install it I would much appreciate it. Working without good sound ain't too much fun.
      Thanks.
