Re: New user, very confused about email and firefox

I've used two Gmail accounts for some years now, and use Thunderbird to fetch the mail.

If you use Tbird, when you open a new account there is the selection <Gmail Account>, and this will set up your (existing) account without any more input than your account name and password. 8)

For other accounts, select <Email Account>, but you have to enter the POP details yourself.

I've also found that it pays to have the Local Folders directory on another drive, rather than let Tbird use it's own Local Folders, as it is easy to lose it all if a format is necessary.

I've used Firefox for browsing / surfing and Thunderbird for e-mail for years and wouldn't change. I've tried most of the alternatives and can't find anything among them to get me to change.

yahoo.com charges your 20 usd per year for pop access, but yahoo.co.uk, yahoo.co.br and many others do not.
Like gmail they are free. gmail uses ssl, whereas yahoo and hotmail for a long time were not encrypted but now at least yahoo has changed to ssl. This really only helps if you are sending mail to someone on the same server.

You will probably find it easier to use either Kubuntu for all of your e-mail and net browsing rather than using both, as copying and backing up will create extra work. Once you are used to Kubuntu you will probably be happy to leave the other OS completely.
