    Graphic Issues

Hi guys! I'm new to linux and have very recently installed kubuntu 9.04. i have a intel 945g mother board, 1gb ram and pentium 4 2.66 ghz processor. intel's website states that all drivers should be automatically detected by the OS but i'm afraid they may not be up to date.
Ok, i've got some issues: after i change the screen resolution from 1024x768 to a higher one, i restart and the changes are not saved. Plus, when at a higher resolution i try to change my desktop configuration (i.e. background image) the computer freezes. this also happened when at the standard resolution i tried to make such changes with all graphic effects applied. when i removed some effects (like transparencies) the problem stopped. also, the OS randomly freezes (not necessarily when trying to change the desktop settings). also, when i install a new application, the configuration files appear to be installed in the home folder, as opposed to the root folder where i believe they should be.

Any help will be appreciated! Thanks in advance...

    Re: Graphic Issues

You didn't mention what graphics chip you had, looks like maybe an Intel as it's an Intel MOBO. I only have experience with Nvidia chips and changing the resolution is done like this:

You need to start the video resolution editing program for your chip as super user.
Here is how I do it with nvidia, you will need to do some research on your chip.
    Open a terminal
    Type: sudo nvidia-settings
    enter your password

The nvidia configuration screen will open
    Set the resolution
    Save and close. Done.

Yours likely isn't saving, as you are not opening and saving as the super user.

Tell us your video chip and see if someone else can help out.

OK, I believe I have an Intel 945G chipset. I've managed to install through aptitude the xserver-xorg-intel-video drivers and for what I've been reading in anothers posts the problem may now be in my xorg.conf file.
I've been searching for an How To editting this file, but can't find any good explanation.
The system no longers freeze, I don't know if that's for the drivers I've installed or some bug fixes that appear on monday. The resolution that I use (1152x864) loads after the desktop starts, but I found all of my bars changed (because for default the system it's starting in 1024x768).

I've tried the command: sudo intel-settings but it's not working.

      Thank's for aswering Jook.
