desktop effects last only a session

I just upgraded to the jaunty jackal-ope and I have the desktop effects applied and they work, but only for each session. Everytime i turn the computer off and then when i turn it on and log back in, the effects are disabled so I have to continually go in the system settings and enable the desktop effects every session. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on applying them so that they are enabled everytime i log in.

    Thanks

Re: desktop effects last only a session

    Hello,

I have the same problem. I am new at Linux and I have installed Jaunty. The desktop effects (KWIN) only work for one session. Every time I logout I need to restart again the effects. I have found the file where configuration is stored (~.kde/share/config/kwinrc) and every time the effects are thorned off.
In Inteprid this not append because I was using Compiz. But with the improved work on jaunty I want use KWIN.
Can some one help. I have tried look for information but nothing about this specific problem.
    Thank you.

I dont use the efect's BUT you mite want to try.

      Kmenu>system setings>advanced>autostart

click add program and click the + next to system find and click desktop efects and click to highlight then ok

and maybe it will start on a reboot

Re: desktop effects last only a session

i really don't know much about the effects in kwin. because i use compiz on my jaunty machine. but based on how you can enable them for a session you might want to also check permissions on the config file you found(~/.kde/share/config/kwinrc) and make sure that you are owner with r/w permission . that could be the cause of your issue.

as a more extreme solution you might want to just remove or move the kwinrc file and this should force kwin to make a new one when restarted ( hopefully this fixes your issues if the permissions were correct)

hello. Tank you for your answer. but I'm not really understand. the problem where is that the configuration file Kwinrc in.kde/share/config/ itch time I logout (I think, or in logon) change the value in [compositing] "enable=true to false". So, desktop effects don't work.
I use then, first because their very good, and because I have a good graphic card.
          Can you help any way?
          Thank you

yea open a console and type in

            Code:
            rm ~/.kde/share/config/kwinrc
that should delete you kwin config file , now it it gives you an error saying something like you don' have permission to delete it.. put "sudo" (no quotes) before the whole command

then log out, log back in to enable effects in kwin then log out and back in to see if it works correctly.

              Hi,
I have already tried your solution. But I repeated again. And another Kwinrc was created. And the problem subsist.
So I tried another thing. The file Kwinrc is read/write for the user. Is where Kwin stores some of the desktop preferences.
So, I enable again desktop effects and change the file rights to only read. And 2 things happened. First the kwin change this file on startup. Not on shutdown. And now, because the file is only read, i have a bunch of error messages (the usual, you have not rights to this file. Contact your system...). But the effects are on (eureka). So, now, after 3 or 4 error messages I have desktop effects... >
Please don't give up. If you remember anything else...
